چکیده
A Boussinesq fluid inside a stably thermally stratified square container whose walls are inclined ${45}^{\circ }$ with respect to gravity, two opposite kept at constant temperatures and the other insulated is nearly isothermal in regions above below horizontal diagonal. The flow concentrated wall boundary layers shear layer centred about equilibrium maintained by balance between dissipation layers, heat fluxes temperature walls, induced resulting from no-flux condition walls. dynamical response of vertical oscillations studied over range forcing frequencies. For small amplitude viscosity-dependent cutoff frequency, this exhibits modal cellular structure localized layer. With increasing amplitude, experiences instabilities, here numerically frequency that similar those encountered Faraday wave problem, such as parametric subharmonic instability, triadic resonance resonant collapse.

Unbalanced instabilities of rapidly rotating stratified shear flows
The linear stability of a rotating, stratified, inviscid horizontal plane Couette flow in a channel is studied in the limit of strong rotation and stratification. Two dimensionless parameters characterize the flow: the Rossby number ǫ, defined as the ratio of the shear to the Coriolis frequency and assumed small, and the ratio s of the Coriolis frequency to the buoyancy frequency, assumed to sa...
متن کاملLarge Eddy Simulations of a Stratified Shear Layer
The performance of the large eddy simulation (LES) approach in predicting the evolution of a shear layer in the presence of stratification is evaluated. The LES uses a dynamic procedure to compute subgrid model coefficients based on filtered velocity and density fields. Two simulations at different Reynolds numbers are simulated on the same computational grid. The fine LES simulated at a low Re...
متن کاملDouble-diffusive instabilities of a shear-generated magnetic layer
Previous theoretical work has speculated about the existence of doublediffusive magnetic buoyancy instabilities of a dynamically evolving horizontal magnetic layer generated by the interaction of forced vertically sheared velocity and a background vertical magnetic field. Here we confirm numerically that if the ratio of the magnetic to thermal diffusivities is sufficiently low then such instabi...
متن کاملShear layer instability in a highly diffusive stably stratified atmosphere
The linear stability of a shear layer in a highly diffusive stably stratified atmosphere has been investigated. This study completes and extends previous works by Dudis (1974) and Jones (1977). We show that (i) an asymptotic regime is reached in the limit of large thermal diffusivity, (ii) there exists two different types of unstable modes. The slowest growing modes correspond to predominantly ...
